I have been the client. That is rather the point.

I am Jason Millward. For twenty years I have worked in ecommerce, and for about half of that I have run it inside consumer brands rather than advising on it from an agency. I have owned the revenue target, defended the budget, argued about stock, and sat in the meeting where the number was short.

That changes what advice is worth. I know what a recommendation costs to actually implement in a business with real constraints, real people and a trading calendar that does not move. I also know what an agency report looks like when it is quietly avoiding the question, because I have spent a decade reading them from the other side of the table.

Scale and Summit exists because there is a gap between what a founder can work out alone and what justifies hiring an ecommerce director. Most brands sit in that gap for a couple of years, and it is an expensive place to sit.

Where I have worked.

YearsRoleWhere
2025 to now Ecommerce Manager A direct to consumer coffee brand. Team of three, Shopify trading, subscriptions, CRM and the profit and loss.
2023 to 2025 Head of Ecommerce Naturewall. Built an eight person team from nothing and owned strategy, roadmap and the profit and loss.
2018 to 2023 Ecommerce Trading Manager inov-8. Global performance footwear, international expansion, and the first million pound trading month.
2016 to 2018 Ecommerce Manager Smiffys. Costume and seasonal, direct and wholesale, through a peak that makes Black Friday look gentle.
2007 to 2016 Agency and development Head of Digital and Head of Search Marketing, running client ecommerce builds. Earlier, front end and interface work including NHS Choices.

How I work.

Evidence before opinion, and I will say which is which. When there is no evidence, the finding says so rather than dressing a guess up as a fact.

Two brands at a time. Deliberately constrained. It is the only way one person delivers work that is better than an agency's rather than thinner.

Nothing held back. Accounts, data, documentation and test history in your name from day one. If we stop, you lose nothing but me.

I will tell you when the answer is no. Including when the answer is that you do not need me. It has cost me work and it is still the right call, because the alternative is a client who resents the invoice by month four.

Outside the job.

I live in Skipton, on the edge of the Dales, and I have been running ultras for over a decade. In 2025 I finished the Montane Spine Race and raised twelve hundred and fifty pounds for Breast Cancer Now doing it.

It is not decoration on a business page. It is why I understand outdoor and endurance brands better than a generalist does, and why I know what their customers are actually trying to find out before they spend two hundred pounds on a pair of shoes they will run through a night in.

If that sounds like the person you have been missing.

Twenty minutes, no deck, no discovery process.
